When should I enroll in Medicare?
Most people first become eligible for Medicare at age 65. Your Initial Enrollment Period generally lasts seven months: three months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month, and three months afterward. Other enrollment periods may apply depending on your circumstances, including whether you have employer health coverage. Contact Seguros Maluyela for help understanding which enrollment period may apply to you.
What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an alternative way to receive your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits through a Medicare-approved private insurance company. Many plans offer additional benefits, such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage.
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare and helps pay certain out-of-pocket costs, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
Important: Medicare Supplement policies cannot be used with Medicare Advantage plans. The right coverage depends on your healthcare needs, preferences, and budget.
Seguros Maluyela can help you understand these differences and review your available options.
Can I keep my current doctors with a Medicare Advantage plan?
You may be able to keep your current doctors, depending on the Medicare Advantage plan you choose. Many plans have provider networks, so it’s important to check whether your preferred doctors, specialists, and hospitals participate in the plan.
Some plans allow you to see providers outside their network, although you may pay more.
At Seguros Maluyela, we can help you review provider networks and explore plans that fit your healthcare needs.
How much does a Medicare Advantage plan cost?
Medicare Advantage plan costs vary depending on the plan and where you live. Some plans have a $0 monthly plan premium, but you generally must continue paying your Medicare Part B premium.
Other costs may include copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Medicare Advantage plans also have an annual out-of-pocket limit for covered Part A and Part B services.
At Seguros Maluyela, we can help you compare available plans and understand their costs and benefits based on your healthcare needs and budget.
Can I change my Medicare Advantage plan?
Yes! You can generally change your Medicare Advantage plan during certain enrollment periods.
Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7): You can switch Medicare Advantage plans or make other eligible Medicare coverage changes. Changes generally take effect January 1.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31): If you’re already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can make one eligible change, such as switching to another Medicare Advantage plan or returning to Original Medicare.
Special Enrollment Periods: Certain life events, such as moving or losing qualifying coverage, may allow you to make changes outside these periods.
At Seguros Maluyela, we can help you understand when you’re eligible to make changes and review your available options.
